Apple snuck in a pretty amazing update at WWDC 2017 that got almost zero keynote attention: NFC Reading. People have dreamed of Apple opening an NFC API on the iPhone for years. And for good reason – accessing external peripherals open up incredible IoT use cases for our apps. Personally, as someone who’s worked with Core Bluetooth and external peripherals in my apps, I was super excited to learn that Core NFC API was made available for iOS 11 and I wanted to know more!
I decided the best way to go about learning CoreNFC was to build an app, and so I have! NFC-Reader started as an experiment to learn NFC and NDEF, but quickly turned into a product. You can scan a number of popular NDEF tag types including contact vCards, website URIs, and more.
